FR. DUBROEUQ's REPLY
to Fr. Benedict Vanderputten's letter posted through the Internet

Fr. Dubroeuq is the District Superior of Ireland, where Fr. Benedict Vanderputten was last stationed before his dismissal from the SSPX.  Recently, Fr. Benedict Vanderputten posted a letter on the Internet in reply to Bishop Fellay's Statement regarding Fr. Vanderputten's first letter, sent by mail.

September 27, 2001

Dear Fr. Vanderputten,

As your last immediate superior, I wish to reply to remarks posted by you to people and issued on the internet.

Fr. Scott has already answered your letter, defending the Society from the false statements you made against it (cf. District Superior's September 2001 Letter).

What you say about my conversation with you is wrong and does a grave injustice to our Society. I said that the main reason why Bishop Fellay rejected the deal was that we would not be free to defend doctrine, to defend Tradition. (The Society’s work is to preserve the whole of the Catholic Faith, not just the Mass in isolation). I gave you this main reason, that was not in your letter. I then said that an agreement, with such conditions attached, could only create a division among the faithful in some countries, where some of them have a tendency to sedevacantism. But I never said that in our Society of Priests (the laity are not members of the Society) a large segment is sedevacantist. I do not know any sedevacantist in our Society. In all justice you must forward this correct information to all those who received your letter.

You do not give the main reason why you were expelled:  it is that you were a member of our Society but working against it in disagreement with the Superior General. You were trying to bring other priests with you to organize a school without the consent of your superiors. You also had contact with the Society of Saint Peter and with Cardinal Ratzinger, without asking any permission of your superiors. You were in the Society but being disobedient and disloyal to it while appearing to the laity to be a solid member of SSPX. That was why you could not remain in our Society. I did not say that you had to be expelled because you were about to contact the enemies of the SSPX —namely, Cardinal Ratzinger , et al. If you disagreed with the Society, the solution was first to speak with your immediate superior. In effect this only occurred at the end because Bishop Fellay made me aware of your difficulties. As long as you were in our Society, you should have been faithful to it.

After the decision of Bishop Fellay, you could have repented of your attitude, humbled yourself and come back. You did not, thinking you were wiser than your superiors.

Please consider your situation from the spiritual side. I do indeed keep you in my prayers.

Sincerely yours in Jesus Christ and Mary,

Fr. Louis-Paul Dubroeucq
