St. Vincent de
Paul Church in Kansas City, MO uniquely commemorates the Nativity
of Our Savior, the Light of the World, with a candlelight Midnight
Mass. Specially-constructed metal chandeliers are hung in the nave, and extra candles
are situated in the sanctuary and around the altar. This effusion
of candlelight transforms
the cathedral-like church into a dramatic liturgical setting for
welcoming the Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Including the
candles held by the faithful, the total number of symbolic tongues of
light reaches
over 1000.
The video (6:21) highlights the
Processional (during which the Infant Child is enshrined in the
Nativity crèche, though this is not shown), part of the Gloria
(when bells are specially rung to coincide with the Angels' praise
in the shepherd's field), the Consecration, and Recessional. |
